Impossible is Impossible

This blog is my way of reflecting upon life. Life is about living and learning. As I live and learn I’m going to reflect upon this life I lead. Hopefully I'll offer something insightful with my postings. If you learn nothing else from me, know this that “impossible is impossible”.

OMGoodness

This has been one of the most boring weekends ever in life.

I still don't have my car. I was supposed to get it Saturday afternoon and I didn't. Do you know I read the mechanic the riot act? He then promised it'd be done Monday when I got off work, and that he would handle my car himself. I told him that had better be a promise because I had a witness and after a day of working the assignment desk, rest assured I will not be in the mood for foolishness.

After that fiasco/ordeal I called my lunch date (not really a date), just a hang out partner and told her we couldn't do lunch. It was sad. She did reveal to me her latest or the juciest development of her life. LoL. Too bad I had no juice to give back to her.

Yesterday afternoon I chilled out and tried to think of blog ideas.

I then watched the movie "Pride" which is great and inspirational, about a black swim coach who creates an all-black championship swimming team. It was decent 2 1/2 stars.

I also caught up on the funny political vids this one and that one.

Today was a lazy day, nothing exciting, and I still haven't written my work blog.

I also need to read the last fifty pages of the Sidney Poitier's book.

Work in the a.m., I'm so excited, not!

That's all for now.

It's Been A While

Hi all, it's been a long time since I was able to sit down and write here.

So much has happened.

A week ago Tuesday I was in a car accident. I wasn't hurt nor was the other person. My car was beat up pretty badly and my repairs have all but cleaned out my bank account. It's pretty sad but atleast I have my life. I still have to see how my insurance company is going to proceed given there was no police report, there were no tickets issued, and all police made us do was exchange information.

Last Wednesday I traveled to my high school alma mater and gave a presentation on diversity. During my forty-five minute block I talked about the qualities of good leadership, strategic skills based governing, and facilitation. While my presentation could have used some more planning and forethought, it wasn't a piss poor performance.

The last time I wrote I was also preparing to head to New Orleans for a series of meetings. Those meetings are over and I'm back here in Baltimore for an extended period where there will be no trips anywhere (isn't it sad?).

New Orleans was great. I was exhausted running between two meetings but elated I got a chance to see the city. I was able to visit Xavier University, a historic historically black university, I saw the ninth ward which was badly devastated by Hurricane Katrina, I also saw the French Quarter, and the world famous Bourbon Street (which really is where all the debauchery takes place.) I brought back pralines from Aunt Sally's for the folks at work, and beignet mix so my mom can make some for me, along with coffee from Cafe du Monde. Luckily when I go back in December I'll be working but also able to focus on a singular experience, enjoying my experience so much the experience of others is enhanced.

Also at work I've been working on our election coverage, writing for the shows, and today I began shadowing our 4pm producer. Next week will be great because I'll probably be allowed to go into the control room while the news is live. That'll be exciting.

Also a few local HBCU's are working on a magazine by each of the comm departments not only did they interview me, but I was photographed and apparently a pic of me may end up on the cover. Interesante?!

As the rest of my life, I'm just surviving. Take care and we'll talk soon.

I am currently on a bus tour of New Orleans, having just ridden through the lower ninth ward. It's surreal to see only where homes used to be. There are tons of vacant lots where overgrown grass marks the spot where a family used to live.

Despite the lingering signs of devastation there are signs of hope.
There are houses being built, many raised on moorings of sorts to hopefully avoid loses like those suffered after Katrina if another hurricane hits.

To ride past homes where spray painted letters and numbers indicate whether people survived or perished, is sobering to say the least.

More to come....

Busy

These last few days have been extra busy working my day job at the T.V. station, and having blogging as the side hustle. I'm really trying to be well at both. For T.V. it means being more assertive, and for blogging it means proofreading.

I was also scheduled to speak and lead a workshop on diversity at my high school alma mater on Wednesday, which went well.

I was majorly stressed because I was in an accident Tuesday afternoon on the way home from work. The damage was most severe to my car and repairs may cost more than the car itself. Ah ya ya!

Then there's this weekend's trip to New Orleans. I have two separate meetings one for the journalism org and the other for the conference faculty I serve on. I really do wish I could split myself in half or better yet clone myself.

I'm at the airport now and my flight is boarding. Leg 1 is to Charlotte and Leg 2 is to NOLA.

So hopefully I'll check in via blogger and Twitter.

TTYS,
C. Nel

Where Things Are With Me

Listening: "I'm His Only Woman" by Jennifer Hudson ft. Fantasia

Feeling: Like Being Really Lazy

It's a Saturday like most Saturday's and I'm just chilling.

I was supposed to go to this voter registration drive earlier but I didn't know if I felt it really appropriate as a journalist to be out and about registering people to vote. Obviously I didn't go. So now I'm at home watching the "Living Single" marathon on TV One. I remember way back when Thursday nights consisted of "Martin", "Living Single", "New York Undercover", and sometimes "ER".

I'm contemplating showering and going to this spoken word night called "The Art of Conversation." I guess I'll decide in the next forty-five minutes to an hour.

Another week of the apprenticeship is done. It was funny because on Friday the assistant news director called me into her office for a pow wow. She asked me how things were going and I told her fine. She asked me how I was interacting with the various supervisors, and I said fine. She then told me how nice it was to have someone who was happy, cheerful, and optimistic around. HaHa. Yeah tell that to my co-workers and they'll ask what I have to be happy, cheerful, or optimistic about. I kid you not one of the co-workers asked me once jokingly, I might add, "What the shit you smiling at?" Yeah they're nuts.

Other than work I've been thinking about grad school. I was all set to go this fall, but they couldn't come up with enough money to make it easier on a brother. I decided that an institution that couldn't invest in me, was not one which really needed me. And those buzzards couldn't even process a deferral right. I decided to defer enrollment in August, and was still getting bills til they squared it away on Thursday. Even given that madness,I'm contemplating taking the GRE's and applying to grad schools again. So we shall see.

Before the weekend is up I do want to go see "The Express", I also need to vaccum the car, pay my car insurance and speaking of car check and make sure the information printed on my title is correct, because the guy I brought my car from says it may be incorrect. I don't want to drive all the way out to him, if he's mistaken, so I'll get on that. You'd think the DMV would have been on that, but obviously someone is slacking.

I only work two days next week, then on Wednesday I do a workshop at my old high school which I should also work on this weekend. Then next Thursday I'm going to New Orleans for two meetings that I'll try to devote myself to equally, I'm sure it'll be a time where I wish I had a twin, a boy twin and not a twin sister.

So that's all for now.

Hey There

It's been a minute since I last wrote here.

Between working forty hours a week at the T.V. station, writing a blog for bthesite.com, handling board duties for the journalism org, preparing for an upcoming trip to NOLA, and just plain trying to keep my head above water I've been pretty busy.

I hope everyone's well.

Nothing much has changed in my life. I'm doing the same ol, same ol. About the only exciting things I've done was go to the movies to see "The Miracle at St. Anna" a Spike Lee flic, and "Lakeview Terrace" which featured the gorgeous Kerry Washington. Also, picked up Jazmine Sullivan, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, and Ne-Yo's latest albums, the last two a little late.

I am having fun watching this election, it's slightly entertaining.

Hope all's well in your lives.
